dapQ Snaps – Butch/Femme Gala

As these dapQ Snaps attest to, last night Shannon and I gathered with many who have been transgressing men’s fashion for decades.  There were 100+ at this annual gathering of the Butch/Femme Society.  We were in the middle of Long Island and the middle of the women’s restroom at Pompeii Catering. Natives flowed in and out – can’t even imagine the men’s room – and we danced and ate vodka pasta and celebrated springtime.

My favorite outfit was worn by Dave, who sported an exquisitely dapperQ Penguin straw, combined with a Brooks Brothers bow tie, jacket by Kenneth Cole Reaction and trousers from Express for Men.  (My favorite if you don’t count the spanking new, pointy toed, two toned Ben Sherman shoes I picked up for a very decent price Friday night at a new vintage store called Guvnor’s Vintage Thrift on 5th Ave in Park Slope, Brooklyn which can be seen in the slide show below.)

Despite the fact that dapperQ is advancing an agenda in which anyone can wear whatever they want, I fear the internalized homophobia these photos might bring up in some of the you.  Because when we gather, I feel it in myself.  The world tells me we are dead wrong and, although I know better, those voices are legion and I am one.
