Autostraddle describes K.D. Lang’s style as “the Original Butch; classic, dapper, sophisticated and eternal.” Others have called her the “archetypal power dyke: she’s got the finely tailored clothes, girly-girl gal pals, and lots of money.” Whether you think her style is over the top…

one thing is certain: Lang’s fashion choices get people talking and she has paved the way for many dapperQs. With respect to Lang’s style, Ariel Levy commented, “Lang wasn’t beautiful or pretty, she was handsome. She was butch. Never before had Americans seen female masculinity so overtly and unapologetically on display, and we couldn’t take our eyes off it.”

What distinguishes K.D. Lang from the pack is her willingness to take risks. Sure, she could go with the traditional solid colored, slim cut suit. But, instead, Lang goes bold by experimenting with textures and patterns. When she is not dressed to the nines in a designer suit, she wears classic queer country casual: crisp, clean white button-downs or Levi’s western shirts with a kerchief and jeans. Her favorite item of clothing is is a blue Japanese flannel shirt that she purchased in New York, noting that Japanese designers are more at the “androgynous centre of fashion.”
