dapperQ TV – Butch Burlesque Vlog #2

Photo & Video, What's New — By on June 22, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I was recently reading Glenn Marla , former Miss Lez and reigning Mr. Coney Island, with whom I judged Murray Hill’s amazing Mr. Transman 2010 contest.  From a work called “Not Otherwise Specified”, Glenn quotes Burlesque Dancer RevaLucian Heather Macallister:

“Any time there is a fat person onstage as anything besides the butt of a joke it’s political. Add physical movement, then dance, then sexuality and you have a revolutionary act.”

Feeling – after last night’s class when I stripped down to almost nothing in front of my butchie classmates – like that sentiment is just as true for those of us who don’t know how to be girls.  Who am I to think I’m sexy?  What right do I have?  In this vlog post, calmly recorded before last night’s terror, I tell you about wanting it all…

was researching butch burlesque for a friend and discovered your vlogs. as a shy, self-conscious femme-ish person, i’m actually really inspired by victoria’s approach and you taking on the challenge. thanks for sharing! i know there must be lots of this available in the bay area, but if you know of specific burlesque teachers here you can recommend, i’d appreciate it!

We’re not aware of any on the west coast, but we’ll keep our ears open! Any other readers know of bay area burlesque teachers?
