Mission

Founded in January, 2009, dapperQ is for genderbenders who want to make any element of men’s fashion truly their own. It’s for all who have been discouraged — in a million and one subtle and not-so-subtle ways — from gleaning for self-expression from the rich and robust universe pioneered over centuries by dapper gents and today reflected in glossies such as GQ, Details and Vogue for Men.

The dapperQ team is exclusively made up of volunteers who are invested in expanding boundaries.  Our contributors regularly supply content that celebrates and forwards the fashion for those who are masculine of center. dapperQ’s reach is expanded by exclusive partnerships, including  GayWeddings.com, which highlights those transgressing bridal fashion.

Audience

dapperQ celebrates the inner and outer beauty of masculine-presenting people of all colors, shapes and sizes by names that include: butch, genderqueer, FTM, stud, dyke, bi girl, boi, AG, genderqueer, butchybuddyguyguy and beyond.  dapperQ is also an inclusive community; we welcome all of our queer and straight allies to join the conversation.

Transgressor-in-Chief

Susan Herr is a 48-year old genderbender whose vision founded dapperQ.  For her work as “transgressor-in-chief”, Susan has been quoted in the Washington Post, Huffington Post and named to Go Magazine’s 2010 Class of 100 Women We Love. In October, 2010 Susan launched an exclusive partnership with GayWeddings.com for which she serves as fashion expert for those who  are “transgressing bridal fashion.”

Susan’s marriage to Shannon Lynch in 2006 was featured in the New York Times.  In her spare time, Susan serves as president of PhilanthroMedia, a company she founded in 2007 to provide new media services to foundations and nonprofits “advancing ideas that matter.”

Quotes

Susan Herr, Transgressor-in-Chief, dapperQ:

For us, fashion is not seen as an end. It is, instead, a means to expressing our ever-evolving capacity to advance change in a world that sorely needs it. It is intended not only as information but as inspiration for those of us simply dressing to fight the good fight each day.

Kathryn Hamm, President, GayWeddings.com:

“Even though resource offerings for the LGBTQ community have become ever-more inclusive, it remains that many brothers and sisters within our diverse community are still looking for a place to find their sensibilities reflected and get their questions answered. Enter dapperQ. This groundbreaking site, which specializes in transgressing fashion trends and advice, captured our attention from moment one. And, it was not long before we invited the dynamic Susan Herr, dapperQ’s primary and and powerful voice, to pen essays for us on transgressing wedding fashion. If there’s any young, LGBT niche website to watch in 2011, our money is on dapperQ.”
