dapQ – DO – Thumbs Up (10.29.10)

Apologies for the NYC-centric nature of my DO list but want to limit this list the things I am attending.  Please feel free to add events you recommend in the comments section.

Tuesday, November 2 —  VOTE?!

Wednesday, November 3ALLISON MILLER is bathed in a halo of radiant light drumming behind every major talent at MICHFEST.  But she shines in whole new light as leader of her jazz group BOOM TIC BOOM.  BTB is holding a fundraiser to finance its upcoming West Coast tour.

Here’s the fun feature I did with ALLI when dapperQ launched earlier this year:

I’m also a huge fan of BETTY’s ELIZABETH ZIFF who is hosting the event.  Everyone we know will be there so get tix in advance at littlefieldnyc.com.

Friday, November 5 – Earlier this week, comedian ROBIN CLOUD and I were walking home from something fab (not) when she said she wished we had a clubhouse we could go to.  Ya know, man cave sh*t.  Fortunately  — after having the summer off — ROBIN is relaunching  THE TRIPLE MINORITY REPORT at BRANDED SALOON in Brooklyn!! 603 Vanderbilt Ave ($5 cover, $1 drink min.)  I think this monthly party could be a great clubhouse hang so join us there.

Saturday, November 13 – In new digs at SOUTHPAW, QUEERESPONDENCE’s November party features crazy fall fashions and queer stylings!  Your old pal joins famed Designer, TOMTOM,
QUEERESPONDENCE co-host DOUGLAS CALHOUN —– to judge a Fashion Show Walk Off at midnite (ugh!)   The FB promo says “Creation Station and Clothing Swap: Coming from work and/or don’t have time to make something outrageous? Bring a bag of your unwanted clothes and/or look through our bin of assorted clothing and make some crazy cool fashion! Leftovers go to charity – tis the season!”  dapQ is definitely bringing a bag of clothes!

Here’s a video in which QUEERESPONDENCE co-founder LAURA GULBRANDSEN learns how to measure herself for a men’s dress shirt:

Tuesday, November 9SIDESHOW: THE QUEER LITERARY CARNIVAL Come and celebrate the co-launch of S. BEAR BERGMAN’s Butch Is A Noun and IVAN COYOTE’s Missed Her, both hot off the presses at Arsenal Pulp Press. Hosted by my cool new friends CHERYL B. & SINCLAIR SEXSMITH@ THE PHOENIX, 447 East 13th Street @ Avenue A Doors, 7:30pm. Reading, 8pm.  Free!

November 4-7 – Met LESBIAN LOVE OCTAGON’s creator KIMBERLEA KRESSEL ON Sunday nite at the MURRAY HILL’s awesome MISS LEZ PAGEANT 2010 and was pretty damned impressed with VICKI SIN who competed as MISS LOVE OCTAGON.  Also in the cast is KAT BRIDGEMAN, a dapperQ I had the pleasure of getting vulnerable with in VICTORIA LIBERTORE’s BUTCH BURLESQUE.  The spousal unit and I have tix for Saturday nite when GLENN MARLA will guest star.  Those who have long bemoaned the quality of lesbo theatre as well as those willing to support KIMBERLEA’s dream of getting this to BROADWAY, get your tix.

Thursday, Nov 11 — My old pals KATE PETERSON and SARAH CLEAVER of NERVOUS BUT EXCITED — who played our living room back in the days before RIOTT GRRL INKS’s CEO GINA MAMONE fell for them – will perform at STONEWALL INN.  I was lucky enough to have dinner with MAMONE on Monday and when I asked her why she has put so much personal energy behind NERVOUS BUT EXCITED she told me she signs bands she would stand in line to hear and that this pleasantly aggressive folk duo has the potential to go all the way.  (Here’s a story I did on what KATE and wife LEAH wore at their  gorgeous wedding this summer.)  Join me!
