History Lesson: 1954 Brooks Brothers Encourages Women to Buy Men’s Shirts

Did you know that, in 1954, the Brooks Brothers store in NYC opened a counter for women to buy men’s shirts? Women flocked to the menswear shop (Brooks Brothers’ full *womenswear department did not launch until 1976) , prompting Life magazine to write an article about how “ladies shop for themselves in a man’s store.” Prompt rainbow: The more you know!
