In July 2013, dapperQ published our first ever list of 100 Most Stylish dapperQs. This was by far one of our most popular posts, but was by no means exhaustive. Since the original post was not comprehensive enough to capture all of the amazing dapper style that exists in our communities, our team decided to compile an annual list of 100 most stylish dapperQs. This year is our 10th anniversary of this piece! That means over 1,000 images of queer style in the dapperQ digital archives. You can find archives of the 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018,  2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 lists by clicking on the links.

We also wanted to play around with the format a bit do breathe some new life into the design and layout. It’s been a rough couple of years, and we want to add a little more joy! But, as always, the list is not ranked and is not about sexual orientation, but dismantling binaries.

1-41. dapperQ Style: Ungendering Fashion

 

Fashion plays a vital role in the making of identity. How we clothe and adorn our bodies sends a message about not only who we are as individuals but also the norms, values, cultures, and people we embrace. Yet for members of the queer community, freedom of style expression is too often constricted by the mainstream fashion industry’s emphasis on unattainable beauty standards and traditional divisions between “men’s wear” and “women’s wear” and comes with risks of harassment, bullying, and violence.

Anita Dolce Vita, editor-in-chief of dapperQ, authored our first print book, dapperQ Style: Ungendering Fashion, published by Harper, as a resource for style inspiration and to open conversations about queer fashion as a tool for self-love, joy, and liberation.

In today’s world, plagued by increased violence against LGBTQ+ communities and legislation seeking to take away bodily autonomy
from the community, the existence of this book is more crucial than ever before.
