It doesn’t feel quite enough to call Werk Those Pecs a party, though that is exactly what it is. The thing is Werk Those Pecs throws parties for trans* individuals to help them reach their surgery goals. Each party is held in honor of a member of the trans* community. Through money generated from raffle prizes, a door fee, and donations, Werk Those Pecs is able to help provide much needed funding for surgeries, as most insurance providers do not cover the surgeries that many trans* individuals need. Furthermore, Werk Those Pecs constantly aims to highlight the T in LGBT, embrace a community of people who are often left out of the mainstream, and provide a safe space for all to come and dance the night away for a cause.
Individuals such as Devin Norelle (pictured above) share their personal stories about what the surgeries would mean to them in a photo series titled, “I Choose Surgery; I Choose Freedom” featured on the Werk Those Pecs Tumblr. Photo credit: Tamara Bachelder and Nicholas Turk
On August 29th Werk Those Pecs will be partying hard, and raising money for Bryn Kelly at The Knitting Factory in Williamsburg. What could be better than a party with a purpose?
