This Week Will Be One of the Best NYC Queer Style Weeks Ever!

Well, at least one of the best NYC queer style weeks ever, we thinks. Why? Because if you live or can get to NYC, you can check out some great queer style leaders – including internationally acclaimed models Jenny Shimizu and Rain Dove – speaking about gender, fashion, and identity on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Let’s start with Tuesday, August 25th, when Refinery29 will be hosting a  style panel – FREE OF CHARGE – with legendary androgynous model Jenny Shimizu; Lena Dunham’s (HBO’s Girls) sister, actress Grace Dunham; dapperQ’s Anita Dolce Vita, and fashion photographer Kristiina Wilson. (Click here for more about the panelists.) Refinery29 Flyer
Here’s a description of the panel: “Peopleswear: Discussing Fashion’s Evolving Relationship With Gender.” Join thought leaders in the fashion industry and queer community as they explore the changing state of the modeling industry, gender-neutral clothing, and the transformative power of a good outfit. Tuesday, August 25 // 7 to 9 p.m. Refinery29 // 225 Broadway, 23rd Floor, New York, NY

Then, on Wednesday, August 26th from 7PM-8PM, Strand Books will be celebrating the latest collection from photographer Jessica Yatrofsky, I Heart Girl. Taking the female body as her subject, Yatrofsky investigates what we call “femininity,” testing its boundaries and questioning its connotations with subjects as different as can be. She’ll be joined by one of her subjects, model Rain Dove, and Interview magazine’s Rachel Small.
