dapperQ is approaching 10 years since our first online post in 2009. During this time, our team has seen a rise in the number of companies that design queer-centric suits with a traditional masculine silhouette for all genders, and even a few companies that recognize that those who present feminine want to look fierce in dapper suiting too! We’ve seen some of the first trailblazers in queer suiting, like St. Harridan and Fourteen, close their doors over the last decade. But, we’ve also seen some others follow in their footsteps, carrying the torch to provide suiting to our communities, which are often ignored, if not completely erased. Here are our top picks for brands that are currently suiting up our communities by either making suiting specifically for our communities and/or being queer inclusive. (For queer suiting under $300, check out our post on LGBTQ+ suiting that won’t break the bank here.)

Edited 10/8/2018: Also, also, also…some of our readers suggested some corporate retailers for affordable suits, as well as independently owned companies that were not on our radar:

Love seeing all these suits! My spouse and I tried to use Kipper Clothiers. They were late to appts, canceled last minute knowing we lived a long drive away. The worst part was they took full payment, then NEVER produced the suit. We tried to call and text and silence. We had to ask for a refund through our credit card before they did anything. And what did they do?! Send rude texts offering deals to get it to us, but then didn’t follow up on those. Thank goodness for the credit card company we got our money back. But because they lied and never produced the suit and didn’t ask for more time just wasted months with false promises, we were scrambling at the very last minute. As a queer couple with a non-binary suit seeking fiancé, it was devastating to have trusted, have our time and money wasted and then struggled to find something to wear on the day we worked so hard to feel beautiful on and overcome homophobia. Please make sure Kipper doesn’t get your endorsement and have more customers to sabotage. Queer couples face too much bs.
