Sharpe Suiting: Decorate Yourself with JOY “Hollywood Holiday” Campaign

The holiday season is fast upon us and it is a very difficult time for intersectional queer communities who face loneliness, isolation from families, disproportionate poverty and violence, and depression. While many of us lean on our chosen families, however, Bitch Media recently pointed out that not all LGBTQIA+ people have the luxury of chosen families.

And that is why self-love is such an important act of resilience, survival, and resistance in our communities. While  it may seem like “self-love” is a term that is thrown around like an Instagram hashtag with no deeper meaning, self-love is a practice with actionable steps ranging from radical self-acceptance to setting boundaries. Sharpe Suiting’s 2019 Decorate Yourself with JOY “Hollywood Holiday” campaign is rooted in the principles of self love.

Sharpe teamed up with photographer by Kelly Balch to capture some prominent members of the community adorned in outfits that affirmed each of the model’s identities, decorating themselves in the joy they felt in wearing clothing that made them feel their most authentic selves.
