Hi! Anita Dolce Vita here. Welcome to my latest LGBTQ travel series “Most Instagrammable,” which features some of the most picturesque places that my partner and I have come across in our travels. I will preference every one of my roundups with reminding people to be respectful travelers.
I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram. Let’s first touch on the dark side of Insta. The documentary Fyre Fraud said of Insta culture that it is “the performance of an attractive life.” The performance of living (instead of actual living) has unleashed harmful impacts ranging from people purchasing food just for a photo and then throwing the food out, to tourists harming the environment just to get the perfect shot. For me, the positive side of Insta has been introducing me to places off the beaten path. I’m more of an adventure traveler (cliff diving, anyone?) than a resort traveler, and I’d rather be at a quaint, uncrowded coffee shop than in a nightclub. Since many queer travel experiences center around nightlife, Insta has opened my world to a range of beauty outside of the club that I can tailor to my specific travel interests.
One of my BIGGEST travel interests are seaside vacations, and the more isolated, the BETTER! Although Croatia has recently been overrun with travelers more interested in Game of Thrones tours than experiencing the local culture and fist pumping club kids rampaging through cities during music festivals, there are still hidden gems and untouched natural beauty that I have been lucky enough to experience only because my partner is from the region. So, with that, here are my picks for the most Instagrammable places in Hvar, Croatia.
