Dapper DJ Whitney Day Spins Dinah, Gears Up for Pride

Editor’s note: dapperQ contributor Cee Sando hit Dinah Shore and caught up with one of our favorite dapper DJs, Whitney Day, who was at the event and is now gearing up for some of her most impressive NYC Pride events to date. Feature image by Amy Beckerman.

Cee Sando: What constitutes Dinah style?

Whitney Day: People were from all over and had many different looks, personal styles, etc. I think the main thing is to look cute while (trying) to stay cool! It is the desert after all, so you need those funky shades, shorts, tanks and bikinis if you wanted to join in the fun at the pool party. Having ‘white’ and ‘black’ party themes also made it a bit easier to narrow down the outfit choices during the nighttime events.

CS: Describe your Dinah Shore 2015 style.

WD: Shorts, flip flops and tanks. Period! Too hot for anymore coverage than that!

CS: Who is your vote for best dressed at Dinah Shore 2015?

WD: I did see this one tall, beautiful girl wearing this amazing African-inspired head-to-toe outfit. It was incredible and I’m just impressed that she was wearing heels at the pool and rocking a full ensemble.

CS: How long have you been DJing?

WD: I’ve been DJing as a full-time career for about 6 years.

CS: What is the best part of your ‘job’?

WD: Getting paid to play music. And, meeting some really cool people and performers. This year for Dinah, I got to DJ with Crystal Waters, which was a total weekend highlight for me. I was also the DJ during the Meghan Trainor concert, so working with her team behind curtains was a cool experience.

I also came home to tons of positive feedback messages on e-mail and Facebook. It makes you feel amazing when the crowd gets what you’re about and is so excited and appreciative for what you bring to the table as a DJ.

CS: When/ where can we see you next?

  • I’ll be touring around Germany and making a stop in Austria over the next few weeks. I’ll be one of the headlining DJs at the largest indoor women’s music festival in Europe, L-Beach, and playing a bunch of other gigs from Berlin to Munich, Vienna and more.
  • Back on the east coast I’m gearing up for Pride. This year I have FOUR major events:

Saturday, June 13th @ Verboten
Tuesday, June 23rd @ the Dream downtown Hotel Pool
Friday, June 26th @ Cielo
Sunday, June 28th @ Marquee
